Today's cars have certainly come a long way compared to their old time counterparts in the provision of creature comforts. Even so, some people are still not satisfied and want to add their own customizing touches. One of the more popular upgrades around at the moment is the in car DVD player. It can certainly be a boon for entertaining bored passengers and no mistake. If you're planning to take off on a long road trip to visit family you're certainly going to need something to keep the kids entertained. Anyone with a family is surely familiar with the 'are we there yet?' mantra coming from the back seat on long journeys. A car DVD player can be a great way to keep them engrossed on even the longest trips. There are basically two types of DVD player that are suitable for use in the car. First we have portable systems. These are not part of the car's internal furniture but can usually be plugged into the car's dashboard-mounted 12 volt power adaptor. The added benefit with these is that you are not restricted to in-car use, you can also remove them from the car and use them in the house etc. The sleeker option, and the one that will be most favored by genuine car customizers are the in-dash car DVD players. In-dash car DVD players are hard-wired into the car's entertainment system which will have the ability to play CDs and have a radio too. The DVD screen will either be in the center console, will descend from the car's roof, or it will flip up from the dashboard. Obviously these systems can only be used in the vehicle itself, they are not detachable and portable in any way. On the plus side, you can't forget to bring them, or find that you don't have the right power cord. The screens which are situated in the car's center console or which flip up from the dashboard can also double as GPS navigation system displays but, as I'm sure you can imagine, they can be distracting for the driver - how many of us can sit in a room when the TV's on and not look at it? The downside of the screens that descend from the car roof is that they can normally only be viewed by back seat passengers leaving front seat passengers looking for some other form of amusement. The technology of car DVD players is likely to show improvements over the years with units getting cheaper, lighter and smaller and therefore being made available as at least optional extras on a greater range of vehicles. It is certainly true that more manufacturers currently have plans to include a car DVD player as an option in their latest automotive offerings. As DVD players find their way into more cars the only problem you may have when planning your next trip is that the driver may end up on the back seat enjoying the movie too.
