Luggage Has Always Been a Key Part of Your Trip

If you are planning to take a trip, whether it is to a distant country or just across the state, you will need to bring certain items from home in order to make that trip pleasant. Clothing, toiletries and other necessities are all part of what you'll need in order to feel comfortable on your next travel experience.

As time went on, more specialized suitcases were developed. People began to travel by train more frequently, and then the development of commercialized airplanes allowed passengers to fly all over the United States, and eventually, all over the world. Trunks had little place on airplanes.

These trunks were able to work because most people only traveled by train or boat - loading and unloading their luggage just once at the beginning and end of long, laborious trips across land and sea. As travel technology changed, so did the need for more innovative luggage.

When air travel became more popular, so did newer forms of luggage and travel accessories. Trunks were still used when large amounts of clothing and other items were needed to be moved from one place to another, but a new version of luggage came into play: the suitcase.

Suitcases changed the way people thought about luggage because they could travel with their own luggage due to the smaller size and convenient handles. People could take their own pieces of luggage to and from the airport, and didn't require the kind of help that moving steamer trunks needed.

As technology advanced, so did the suitcase. The first suitcases were made of leather - they were expensive and hard to maintain, with hard corners that were susceptible to wear and tear. If a leather suitcase was dropped, it could pop open, causing the contents to spill everywhere.

Later suitcases were made of a hard plastic - more durable, but still expensive and prone to cracking. Good for traveling in airplanes due to their protective natures, but they did not fit well in other types of vehicles. Then, nylon and other soft materials became the trend.

Designer suitcases may be tempting - with all of the brand names available to showcase your wealthy tastes and your style, but be wary. These suitcases are rarely any sturdier than other cases of similar size, and they are just as likely to be lost or stained while in transit - so be prepared.

Choosing the perfect luggage for your trip depends on many factors, including where you are going, what you are planning on doing when you get there and how comfortable you feel with certain elements of travel. Plan carefully before purchasing your next luggage set.
